Pete El Capitano

Pete’s love for the sea was sparked at an early age as he learned to sail off Jupiter Point, a Naval base where his dad worked. After settling in Cornwall, he developed a deep passion for surfing.
As a lifeguard, he took every opportunity to sneak in cheeky surf sessions, even if it occasionally landed him in trouble. But for Pete, the thrill of catching waves was well worth the risk!

Realising that lifeguarding wasn’t his ultimate path, Peter shifted gears and embarked on a journey across the UK as a welder and fabricator. Though he tackled this work with skill and determination, he couldn’t shake the feeling that his heart lay elsewhere. The real turning point came when he joined the Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service, where he dedicated 30 years to safeguarding his community, embodying courage and commitment.
Yet, even a career as a firefighter couldn’t keep him still. During those years, Peter dived headfirst into house renovations, eagerly transforming spaces with the same enthusiasm he brought to battling blazes. He became a master of improvement, always looking for ways to enhance and create.

Through it all, the ocean’s pull was ever-present. As much as he loved fixing homes and saving lives, the sea was the call he could never ignore. Inspired by the adventurous tales of Shackleton, he came to understand that sailing wasn’t just a fleeting wish; it was a core part of his identity. Peter’s journey reflects the idea that sometimes, the path to discovering one’s true passion is winding, filled with unexpected turns, but always guided by a profound love for what lies beyond the horizon.
